WHEAT

- Oct 11 - Japan seeks 109,150 MT of food wheat for Nov-Jan shipments:

  • 34,350 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 28,743 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 52,592 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat;

- Oct 9 - USDA announced export sales of 120,000 MT of US hard red spring wheat for delivery to Bangladesh during 2018/19

- Oct 9 - The lowest offer in Bangladesh’s tender for 50,000 MT of wheat came in at 297.20 $/mt C&F liner out from Agrocorp. Other offers were: Aston – 297.89 $/mt, Swiss Singapore Overseas – 297.96 $/mt, Phoenix Global – 308.43 $/mt

- Oct 8 - China auctioned 3,361 MT of imported 2013 wheat from state reserves, or 0.4% of the offered amount at average price of 2,172 RMB/mt (314 $/mt)

- US wheat export inspections for week, ending Oct 4, recorded 423,270 MT, within trade expectations (300-500 TMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 28.9% behind of year-ago

- Russia's Ag Min plans to start a sale of 1.5 MMT of grain from state stockpiles within two or three weeks

- IKAR raised Russia's 2018 total grain production forecast from 108.6 to 109.4 MMT and wheat crop forecast to 69.8 MMT from 69.3 MMT previously

- Egypt has sufficient strategic wheat reserves to last until the end of the first week of February

- Syria harvested its smallest wheat crop in 30 years in 2018, at 1.2 MMT, according to FAO. Syria's pre-crisis harvest averaged 4.1 MMT

- EU this season in period of July 1-Oct 7, 2018/19 exported 4.567 MMT of soft wheat compared to 6.006 MMT a year ago

- France's farm ministry cut its estimate of the country's 2018 soft wheat crop to 34.192 MMT from 34.551 MMT forecasted in September with yields lowered to 6.97 from 7.02 mt/ha earlier, down 6.5% from last year (36.559 MMT and 7.37 mt/ha in 2017) and 4.7% below the five-year average

- France's exports of soft wheat outside the EU are seen at 8.285 MMT in the 2018/19 season, of which 2.245 MMT was sold between July and September, according to French grain exporter union Synacomex. Algeria is expected to take 4.3 MMT, with French exporters having sold 1.82 MMT to the North African country up to September. Total French exports of soft wheat could amount to 15.87 MMT, of which 7.46 million will go to the EU market

- French wheat exporters expect Morocco to import 3 MMT of soft wheat for 2018/19 season. About 45% of Morocco’s soft wheat imports are expected to be of French origin

- Ukrainian farms have sown as of Oct 9 a total of 5.7 million hectares of winter grains for the 2019 harvest, or 79% of the expected area of 7.2 million, incl. 5.0 million hectares of winter wheat and 511,000 hectares of winter barley

CORN

- Oct 9 - Jordan bought 60,000 MT of optional-origin feed barley from Aston at 276 $/mt c&f for Dec 1-15 shipment

- US corn export inspections for week, ending Oct 4, reported 1,351,177 MT, within market expectations (1-1.4 MMT). Inspections for 2018/19 are running 62.1% ahead of year-ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Oct 7, 2018/19 imported 4.482 MMT of corn (maize) vs. 3.732 MMT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Oct 7, 2018/19 exported 183,850 MT of corn vs. 261,621 MT a year ago

- EU this season in period of July 1-Oct 7, 2018/19 exported 1.485 MMT of barley vs. 1.671 MMT a year ago

- France's farm ministry cut the country's 2018 barley production estimate to 11.298 MMT from 11.554 MMT in September, down 6.5% from last year (12.087 MMT in 2017) and 2% below the five-year average. French winter barley crop is estimated at 8.255 MMT (8.484 MMT forecasted in Sept and 9.084 MMT in 2017), while spring crop totals 3.042 MMT (3.07 MMT forecasted in Sept and 3.003 MMT in 2017)

- France's farm ministry lowered forecast of the country's 2018 grain maize crop to 12.204 MMT from 12.425 MMT, down 14.6% from last year (14.297 MMT in 2017) and 15.5% below the five-year average

- IKAR lifted its 2018 Russian corn crop outlook to 10.8 MMT from 10.6 MMT previously

- China has reported a series of cases of African swine fever since the country's first outbreak in early August. African swine fever outbreak in the country remains complex and severe

- China banned imports of pigs, wild boars and products from Bulgaria and Belgium after an outbreak of African swine fever, as well as imports from Japan after a regular swine fever outbreak

- Ukrainian farmers harvested 10.4 MMT of corn from 37% of planned area as of Oct 9, yields totalled 6.22 mt/ha

SOYBEAN

- US soybean export inspections for week, ending Oct 4, reported 569,776 MT, within trade estimates (500-900 TMT). Inspections for the 2018/19 marketing year are running 35.2% behind of year-ago

- Abiove upped its forecast of Brazil's 2018 soybean exports by 0.9 MMT to 77 MMT. Abiove expects 2018/19 soybean crop at 119.5 MMT, exports for the 2019 period are forecast at 71.9 MMT

- Safras & Mercado says Brazilian farmers sold 92.9% of the 2017/18 soybean crop by October 4 versus 83.7% last year and vs. 5-year average pace of 90.2%. Also they estimate some 27.3% of the expected 2018/19 Brazil soy harvest has been forward sold compared to the 14.1% in the year earlier period and the long-term average of 30.2%. Safras projects the new Brazilian soy crop to reach a record of 121 MMT
