WHEAT

- May 18 - Tunisia's state grains agency seeks 92,000 MT of optional origin soft milling wheat in 4 consignments (3x25 TMT and 1x17 TMT) for July 15-Sept 5 shipment

- May 17 - Egypt’s GASC bought 295,000 MT of wheat from global suppliers for June 15-24 shipment:

  • 60,000 MT of Romanian wheat from Cerealcom at 207.18 $/mt c&f (197.49+9.69 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of US HRW wheat from Ameropa at 207.25 $/mt c&f (186.75+20.5 freight);
  • 55,000 MT of US HRW wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 207.9 $/mt c&f (185.4+22.5 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Midgulf at 208.49 $/mt c&f (198+10.49 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Ukrainian wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 208.74 $/mt c&f (197.05+11.69 freight)

- Egypt's GASC raises the required level of protein content in wheat purchases by 0.5% for most origins. So, Russian, Romanian, and Ukrainian wheat will now be required to have at least 12.5% protein content instead of 12%, while French wheat – 12% instead of 11.5%

- May 16 - Argentina registered 25,000 MT of wheat for export

- Ukraine's Ag Min said Ukraine exported 39.14 MMT of grain between July 1-May 17, 2016/17, up 10.6% from 35.38 MMT for the same period last season, including:

  • wheat – 16.28 MMT (vs. 14.99 MMT a year ago);
  • corn – 17.5 MMT (15.93 MMT);
  • barley – 5.14 MMT (4.25 MMT)

- Iraq expects to produce 3.65 MMT of wheat this year. Wheat requirement for the country's ration card system estimated at 4.25-4.5 MMT

- Syria's government has raised the price it pays farmers for their wheat to 140 Syrian pounds per kilo, 12% higher than the 125 Syrian pounds announced in November and up from 100 pounds in last season

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter wheat area planted for the summer 2017 harvest at 3.16 million hectares, 0.9% higher on the year

- May 15 - South Korea’s Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. purchased about 65,000 MT of rice from China, US and Vietnam

CORN

- May 17 - Taiwan's MFIG group bought 65,000 MT of Brazilian corn at a premium of 84.7 USc/bushel c&f over the Chicago December 2017 contract (around 186.5 USD/mt, c&f) for Aug 17-Sept 5 shipment

- May 17 - Jordan has made no purchase in an international tender for 100,000 MT of feed barley for Oct-Nov shipment and may retender on May 24

- May 17 - Japan received no offers for 120,000 MT of feed wheat and 200,000 MT of feed barley in a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. New SBS tender for the same amounts for each grain will be held on May 24

- May 16 - Argentina registered 40,084 MT of corn for export

- US Ethanol production for the week ended May 12 rose by 21,000 barrels to 1,027,000 barrels per day, up 8.3% from last year's level of 948,000 bpd. Stocks climbed by 359,000 barrels from the week prior to 23.414 million barrels, up 11% vs. 21.103 million barrels a year ago

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter barley area planted for the summer 2017 harvest at 1.23 million hectares, down 2.3% from year-ago

SOYBEAN

- May 16 - Argentina registered for export 25,000 MT of soybeans, 42,140 MT of soybean oil and 99,674 MT of soymeal

- German’s state statistics office estimated winter rapeseed area sowed for the summer 2017 harvest at 1.31 million hectares, down 1% from year-ago
