- Mar 16 - Japan bought 146,455 MT of food wheat for April-June shipments:

  • 8,170 MT of western white US wheat;
  • 16,550 MT of hard red winter US wheat;
  • 59,178 MT of dark northern spring US wheat;
  • 62,557 MT of Canadian western red spring wheat

- Mar 16 - USDA announced export sales of 120,000 MT of US hard red winter wheat for delivery to Algeria during 2016/17

- Mar 15 - Algeria's OAIC bought 480,000 MT of optional-origin milling wheat at 204-206 $/mt c&f for May shipment

- Mar 15 - Egypt's GASC bought 420,000 MT of wheat from Russia (300 TMT), France (60 TMT) and Ukraine (60 TMT) for April 15-25 shipment:

  • 60,000 MT of Ukrainian wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 207.74 $/mt c&f (195+12.74 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Olam at 208.29 $/mt c&f (195.90+12.39 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Louis Dreyfus at 209.39 $/mt c&f (197+12.39 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from AOS at 210.15 $/mt c&f (197.65+12.50 freight);
  • 60,000 MT of Russian wheat from Aston at 210.15 $/mt c&f (197.65+12.50 freight);

- Weekly US wheat export sales data for week ended Mar 9 totalled 338,600 MT, incl. 264,400 MT for 2016/17 (within trade expectations for 250-450 TMT) and 74,200 MT for 2017/18 (within trade expectations for 25-200 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 37% ahead of year-ago

- EU in week ended March 10 awarded licenses to import 1,200 MT of Ukrainian wheat under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 84% (808,902 MT) out of a total volume of 960,000 MT available in 2017

- According to TAXUD, the EU this season in period of Jul 1-Mar 14, 2016/17 exported 17.14 MMT of soft wheat compared to 19.928 MMT a year ago

- Bulgaria's Jul-Dec 2016 wheat exports are estimated at 3.277 MMT, up 41.5% from year-ago

- Strategie Grains upped its forecast for the 2017 soft wheat harvest in the EU to 143.9 MMT from 143.8 MMT in Feb (135.7 MMT in 2016). Strategie Grains lowered its forecast for EU 2016/17 soft wheat carryover stocks to 10.4 MMT from 11 MMT, and expects further decline next season, to 10 MMT

CORN

- Mar 17 - Saudi Arabia seeks 1.5 MMT of feed barley in 25 consignments for May-June shipment

- Mar 15 - Israeli group (Sherutei Bar) bought 42,000 MT of corn, likely Ukrainian, from Cargill at 181.9 $/mt c&f for April-May shipment

- Mar 15 - Argentina grants export licenses for 70,000 MT of feed barley and 27,500 MT of brewer barley

- Weekly US corn export sales data for week ended Mar 9 of 1,473,500 MT, incl. 1,255,400 MT for 2016/17 (topped trade expectations for 700-1000 TMT) and 218,100 MT for 2017/18 (above trade estimates of 0-200 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 51% ahead of year-ago

- EU in week ended Mar 10 awarded licenses to import 6,200 MT of Ukrainian barley under an annual duty-free quota. The award meant that the EU had now awarded 17.66% (47,688 MT) out of a total volume of 270,000 MT available in 2017

- Strategie Grains upped its forecast of total EU barley production in 2017 by 100,000 MT to 61.4 MMT, up 2% from last year (60.1 MMT in 2016). Strategie Grains reduced its forecast for EU barley stocks at the end of 2016/17 to 7 MMT from 7.6 MMT, but expects that stocks to rise next season to 7.7 MMT

- Strategie Grains cut its forecast for EU grain maize production in 2017 by 900,000 MT to 60.5 MMT, up 1% from last year (59.7 MMT in 2016)

- Farmers of 15 Ukrainian regions have started spring grain sowing as of March 15, seeding 138,000 hectares, thereof 95,000 ha of barley (or 5% of planned area of 1.728 mln ha), 34,000 ha of peas (or 12% of planned area of 276,000 ha), 5,000 ha of oats (or 1% of planned area of 208,000 ha) and 4,000 ha of wheat (or 2% of planned area of 190,000 ha)

- US Ethanol production for the week ended Mar 10 rose by 23,000 barrels to 1,045,000 barrels per day, up 4.6% from last year's level of 999,000 bpd. Stocks fell by 90,000 barrels from the week prior to 22.766 million barrels, down 0.4% vs. 22.853 million barrels a year ago

SOYBEAN

- Mar 16 - Egypt's GASC bought 105,000 MT of vegoil (75,000 MT of sunflower oil and 30,000 MT of soybean oil) for May 10 arrival:

  • 30,000 MT of soybean oil from Glencore at 750 $/mt c&f;
  • 40,000 MT of sunflower oil from Glencore at 764 $/mt c&f;
  • 16,500 MT of sunflower oil from Aston at 764 $/mt c&f;
  • 18,500 MT of sunflower oil from Nidera at 764 $/mt c&f

- Mar 16 - USDA announced export sales of 120,000 MT of US soybeans for delivery to unknown destinations during 2016/17

- Weekly US soybean export sales data for week ended Mar 9 of 727,400 MT, incl. 471,600 MT for 2016/17 (within trade estimates of 400-600 TMT) and 255,800 MT for 2017/18 (topped trade estimates of 0-200 TMT). Export commitments for 2016/17 are running 23% ahead of year-ago

- NOPA said its members crushed 142.792 million bushels of soybeans during February, less than expected (146.091 million bu – avg., 142.56-151.871 mln bu – range) and lower than a year earlier. NOPA processors crashed 160.621 mln bu in January and 146.181 mln bu a year ago. Soyoil stocks rose to 1.77 billion lbs as of February 28 from 1.655 a month earlier, above the average expectations of 1.728 billion lbs, and vs. last year’s level of 1.792 billion lbs. Soymeal exports decreased to 738,825 tons from 891,143 tons in Jan but above than 686,999 tons a year-ago
